I would like to welcome all of the Women involved in the Painting & Decorating Industry to get involved in this Blog - lets work together to further pave the path for females in this industry.
I think it is great to have a new way to share ideas, concerns, and comments about our industry and businesses. I am looking forward to learning from others the lessons that have already been learned.
I am the business manager of our company and do not actually apply product any longer. I am always looking for ways to encourage and develop our employees as well as embrace more effective business concepts.
Lets see if we can get some mutual interest started from not only a painters' perspective but also a woman's.
This is a great idea. I was not sure if I was going to continue with PCDA because I felt like the only female. I own a small faux painting and decorating company. I specialize in ofcourse faux painting, color consulting and have been trained as an interior decorator. I have found that as a female, sales have been easy in the residential world because we form a natural trust and friendship with our customers. This forum should be interesting. I can wait to see the topics of discussion.
I love to share ideas and talk to other women about our industry. Thirty years ago the men thought it was cool to have a woman painter painting their houses. 25 years ago I was a threat to the union and men painters. I had to keep proving myself everyday. I started my own company in 1984. In 1993 I started teaching 16 to 24 year olds how to paint. I love to paint. I hope there is a lot of women out there that want to join the blog. Keep up the good work, ladies!
No. I was having a hard time keeping my help, so when I saw the ad in the paper for an instructor, I jumped at the chance. I find it hard to faux paint. You probably know all the secrets. I like to get in a room, paint, and get out. I am not a patient person when I am working to get something done. How did you get into the buisness?
I spent years working my way through the corperate world and did pretty good. One seminar I attended had a personality test that I was off the chart on the right brain so I thought to myself ...no wonder I am not happy, I am not using my creative side. I studied decorating and in the process realized that decorators hire their painters and that was always my favorite part. So I studied faux painting (decorative arts center in St Louis)and loved it. I then decided to start my own business, which was scarry considering I was leaving a secure salary. I am so happy that I did as now I am chasing a dream and enjoying every minute of it.For me the journey has just begun. I have a solid year under my belt and this second year is looking great. Refferals have been great, it is just filling in the gaps that can be a challenge. Finding the right advertising for a small business is tough.
I too own a Paint Contracting Business Residential repaints 80% & a Repairs & Renovation company in the Pacific Northwest. The Painting Industry has less females than any other industry, both in the field and as owners that are part of the PDCA. Women painters are awesome in the field and I get more production out of everyone when a women are working side by side. I am glad see more women joining this industry.
As far as a painters prospective from women will always come with a women's personal touch. I love this industry and welcome this forum.

Is anyone out there a fine arts painter? All the blogs I'm seeing relate to interior decorating, faux painting, etc..
